BJP Flags ₹20 Cr Health Project Risk, Urges Governor’s Intervention

A delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party met with the Honorable Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Kavinder Gupta, at Lok Bhavan, Shimla, and submitted a detailed memorandum against two significant anti-people decisions of the state government. The delegation included BJP State General Secretary Sanjeev Katwal, Media Incharge Karan Nanda, Treasurer Kamal Sood, Co-Media Incharge Rama Thakur, and Pyaar Singh Kanwar.

BJP leaders apprised the Governor that the State Government’s proposal to shift the gynecology services of Kamla Nehru Hospital, Shimla to IGMC is not only impractical but also poses a serious threat to maternal and child health services. They said that the hospital has served as a lifeline for the women and newborns of the state for the last nearly 100 years, but an attempt is being made to weaken it through a “silent shifting” without any clear notification.

The memorandum stated that IGMC is already overburdened, and transferring the services of the 300-bed specialized hospital there is not only impractical but will also adversely impact the quality of healthcare. The BJP also noted that over ₹20 crore of public money has been spent on upgrading Kamala Nehru Hospital, which is being nullified by this decision.

The BJP expressed apprehension that the hospital land may be used for other purposes, which is a serious matter and requires an impartial investigation.

The delegation also lodged a strong protest with the Governor, calling the decision to increase pass fees on restricted and restricted roads in Shimla city by five times anti-people. They pointed out that under the proposed amendment, the processing fee is being increased from ₹100 to ₹500, the pass fee from ₹2,000 to ₹10,000, and other fees are being increased significantly, which will impose an additional financial burden on the general public, traders, and employees.

BJP leaders said the decision was not only unfair but also turned it into a revenue-collecting tool, creating an atmosphere of fear and resentment among ordinary citizens. They also said that harsh punitive provisions, such as heavy fines and imprisonment, were contrary to a democratic system.

The BJP urged the Governor to take cognizance of both these issues and direct the state government to maintain the services of Kamala Nehru Hospital as they are and stop the huge increase in pass fees with immediate effect.

Finally, the BJP delegation said that these decisions of the state government are against the interests of the public and the BJP will further intensify the public movement on these issues.
