Himachal Braces for Another Wet Spell as April Showers to Intensify on 17 & 18
After recording a remarkable 128% surplus rainfall in just the first 12 days of April, Himachal Pradesh is preparing for yet another round of wet weather. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for April 17 and 18, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across many parts of the state.
A fresh Western Disturbance is expected to impact the Western Himalayan region from April 15, bringing snowfall in higher reaches and rain in mid-hills on April 16. This will be followed by widespread precipitation on April 17 and 18. Interestingly, despite the rain and snow, both minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to rise by 2°C to 5°C during this period.
In the past 24 hours, the weather remained mostly dry, with minimum temperatures ranging from -1°C to 16°C and maximum temperatures between 12°C and 31°C. Shimla recorded 9°C, Dharamsala 11.2°C, Manali 3.8°C, and Kalpa a chilly 0.6°C. Una was the warmest spot at 31.2°C, while Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti was the coldest at 0.9°C.
With the skies set to turn stormy again, residents and travelers are advised to stay alert and plan accordingly, as Himachal’s unpredictable April weather continues to test both locals and visitors.
