POCSO Case: Bail Granted to BJP MLA Hansraj Contested in High Court

The troubles of BJP MLA Hansraj from Churah constituency in the remote district of Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, have increased again. In the POCSO Act case registered against him, the victim has challenged his bail in the High Court. Earlier, the Chamba Sessions Court had granted bail to MLA Hansraj, which the victim opposed by filing a petition in the Himachal High Court. On Monday, in connection with this case, the petitioner filed compliance regarding objections linked to the petition. The matter had reached the Himachal High Court in January this year.

High Court issues notice, seeks reply in 4 weeks

A case under the POCSO Act is registered against BJP MLA Hansraj at the Women’s Police Station in Chamba. On November 27, 2025, the Chamba Sessions Court granted him bail. Later, in January 2026, the matter reached the Himachal High Court. On January 9, Justice Rakesh Kanthla’s bench heard the case. Additional Advocate General Jitendra Sharma, appearing for the state, requested time to file a status report. The court directed the state to submit the report within four weeks and also issued notice to MLA Hansraj, ordering him to complete necessary formalities within one week.

The respondents in the case include the State of Himachal Pradesh, the Superintendent of Police Chamba, the SHO of the Women’s Police Station Chamba, and MLA Hansraj. Notices have been issued to all respondents by the High Court. No date has yet been fixed for the next hearing.

Case filed on November 7, 2025

On November 7, 2025, the victim lodged a complaint against MLA Hansraj at the Women’s Police Station in Chamba. An FIR was registered under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. Following this, MLA Hansraj approached the court. On November 10, 2025, he filed a bail petition in the Chamba Court, which was accepted, and on November 27, 2025, he was granted regular bail.
