A Walk Through Time: Explore Mandi’s Living Heritage During Shivratri
Mandi, February 1st: For the first time at the International Mahashivratri Festival, visitors and locals alike are invited to step into the past with a special Heritage Walk. This daily journey promises to bring the soul of Mandi to life, tracing the city’s evolution from its founding to its present-day spiritual heartbeat.
Organized every day throughout the festival, the walk is more than a tour—it’s an immersive experience. Participants will wander through the historic market lanes, stand before ancient temples, and uncover stories etched in stone and tradition.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Mandi, Gursimar Singh, shared that a detailed plan is in place to guide explorers. “We want people to not just see, but understand Mandi,” he said. “They will learn about our city’s unique architectural styles, its development, and the profound legends and craftsmanship behind our sacred sites.”
The focus will be on temples dating back 300 to 500 years, each a masterpiece of sculpture and faith. By highlighting their history and cultural significance, the walk aims to do more than promote religious tourism; it seeks to strengthen the shared cultural identity of this vibrant town.
Known fondly as ‘Chhoti Kashi,’ Mandi is where the Himalayas cradle a rich tapestry of history and devotion. Temples like the Trilokinath, Panchavaktra, Ardhanarishwar, and Baba Bhootnath stand as serene witnesses to the era of the Sen Rajput rulers, offering a timeless glimpse into a regal and spiritual past.
This Heritage Walk is an open invitation. Whether you’re a local resident rediscovering your roots or a devotee and tourist from across the globe, prepare to be intimately acquainted with Mandi’s architectural wonders, its bustling market history, its vibrant social life, and the enduring faith that has shaped it for centuries.
