Resident doctors at IGMC Shimla demand timely payments
The Resident Doctors’ Association of Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, has voiced deep frustration over repeated delays in the release of monthly stipends for senior and junior resident doctors.
For the past three months, not a single stipend has been disbursed within the first half of the month. As of December 19, doctors are still waiting for their payments—a delay they call “a matter of shame” for the government, hospital administration, and the Medical Education Department.
IGMC, the state’s largest medical college and hospital, depends heavily on resident doctors who provide round-the-clock care to patients from across Himachal Pradesh. Yet, despite their critical role, authorities have failed to ensure timely payments, leaving doctors feeling undervalued and ignored.
“This is a serious issue. If even the premier medical college of the state cannot pay its resident doctors on time, it reflects poorly on the system,” the association stated.
The growing discontent has sparked warnings of possible work stoppages or a pen-down strike if the matter is not resolved quickly—an alarming prospect for a hospital that serves thousands of patients daily.
