Buzzing with Knowledge: Students Shine at Inter-College Entomology Quiz & Photography Contest
The Entomology Club at Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, turned science into celebration as it hosted an Inter-college Entomology Quiz Competition and Insect Photography Contest. The event brought together bright young minds from across constituent colleges and universities, with Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajeshwar Singh Chandel adding prestige to the occasion.
A Battle of Wits
Six spirited teams—from COHF Thunag, COHF Neri, College of Horticulture Nauni, College of Forestry Nauni, and Shoolini University—went head-to-head in a quiz designed to test their insect science expertise. The rounds ranged from MCQs and audio-visual identification to a technical spelling bee and a thrilling rapid-fire finale.
After an intense contest, Team Hemiptera (COHF Thunag)—Gourav, Fiza Bhalaik, Varsha Thakur, and Monika Raj—emerged victorious. Team Coleoptera (COH Nauni), featuring Simran, Akhil, Lakshay, and Apoorva, secured the runner-up spot. Prof. Chandel praised the students’ enthusiasm and sportsmanship, calling the event a true celebration of curiosity and learning.
Capturing Nature’s Tiny Wonders
The insect photography competition added an artistic flair to the day.
- Payal (MSc 2nd year, Entomology) won first prize for her striking shot showcasing insect diversity.
- Susmita (PhD 3rd year, Entomology) claimed second place.
- Varnika (PhD 2nd year, Statistics) earned third prize for her creative composition.
The contest highlighted how photography can deepen our understanding of insect behaviour and ecology, turning science into storytelling through visuals.
Celebrating Excellence
In the valedictory session, Prof. Chandel awarded certificates and prizes, commending the Department of Entomology for nurturing scientific inquiry and collaborative learning. The presence of dignitaries including Dr. Devina Vaidya, Dr. D.R. Bhardwaj, Dr. Manish Sharma, and Dr. S.C.
