From Shimla to the Silver Screen: Ritu Sood Shines in South Indian Debut

Ritu Sood, a rising talent from Himachal Pradesh, has made a powerful debut in South Indian cinema with Mass Jathara, captivating audiences with her fierce and nuanced performance.

Starring alongside Ravi Teja and Sreeleela, Ritu plays a key role as a calm yet calculating member of a crime syndicate — a character that demanded both restraint and intensity. Her “controlled expressions and strong screen presence” have earned widespread praise, adding emotional weight to the film’s gritty storyline.

Directed by Bhanu Bhogavarupu and produced by Sitara Entertainments, Mass Jathara was filmed in Hyderabad, with action sequences choreographed by Venkat Naga. The film’s high-octane drama is matched by Ritu’s compelling portrayal, which critics say brings a fresh edge to the genre.

Before stepping into South Indian cinema, Ritu made her mark in Do Patti and Bastar, portraying authoritative roles in government and diplomacy. She also gained popularity on television as ‘Maa Surasa’ in Shrimad Ramayan, showcasing her versatility across platforms.

A native of Shimla, Ritu is an alumna of Auckland House and St. Bede’s College, and holds an MBA from Delhi. Her journey from corporate management to acting reflects a bold career pivot driven by passion and purpose.

“I’m drawn to roles that balance strength with vulnerability,” Ritu shares. “With Mass Jathara, I’ve found a story that lets me explore both.”

Her performance marks not just a cinematic milestone, but a cultural bridge — blending the quiet grace of Himachal with the dynamic energy of South Indian storytelling.
