CPI(M) Demands Justice for Dalit Boy, Vows Protest Against Caste Atrocities in Himachal
The tragic death of a 12-year-old Dalit boy in Limbda village, Rohru tehsil of Shimla district, has sparked outrage and sorrow across Himachal Pradesh. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has strongly condemned the caste-based harassment that led to the boy’s death, calling it a heartbreaking reminder of the deep-rooted discrimination that still exists.
In a heartfelt statement, CPI(M) State Secretary Sanjay Chauhan expressed solidarity with the grieving family. “Such caste atrocities are unacceptable in a state that prides itself on education and progress. We stand firmly with the family in this hour of pain,” he said.
The party has demanded swift and strict action against those responsible under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. A CPI(M) delegation is set to visit the family to understand the ground realities and offer support.
Chauhan warned that if the government fails to act decisively, CPI(M) will mobilize statewide protests on October 6 to demand justice and raise awareness about Dalit oppression. “This child came from a poor Dalit family. Denying him justice is a betrayal of the constitutional promise of equality and dignity,” he said.
He also urged the state to take meaningful steps to sensitize society and prevent such incidents from recurring. “We must build a culture that rejects caste-based discrimination and embraces social justice—not just in law, but in everyday life,” Chauhan added.
The incident has reignited calls for stronger protections and deeper societal change, reminding Himachal that progress must be measured not just in development, but in compassion and equality.
