Jairam Slams Government for Failing to Tackle Mining Mafia

Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition, Jairam Thakur, has launched a sharp critique against the Himachal Pradesh government, accusing it of turning a blind eye to the rampant activities of the mining mafia. He alleged that the Sukhu government’s inability to act against illegal mining has left citizens with no option but to approach the High Court for justice.

Thakur questioned whether the mafia was operating under direct protection from those in power, highlighting the administration’s lack of decisive action. “The situation is so dire that even the Deputy Chief Minister is left appealing to the administration, which clearly reflects the government’s helplessness,” he remarked.

He further pointed to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in the Deputy Chief Minister’s home district, which prompted the High Court to issue a notice to the state government. Thakur emphasized that the administration’s failure to curb illegal mining has left the public to seek intervention from the judiciary.

The former Chief Minister also criticized the government for addressing such critical issues through public meetings instead of taking action through proper administrative channels. He expressed concern over the unchecked operations of the mining mafia, which he said are not only harming local communities but also causing severe environmental damage.

Thakur’s comments underscore growing frustration over the government’s perceived inefficiency in tackling a problem that continues to affect Himachal Pradesh’s natural and social fabric.
