Cold wave grips Himachal: Jan 4 to 6 lower regions may see rainfall, while snowfall in higher altitudes
Himachal Pradesh is set to welcome a fresh spell of snowfall and rain as the Meteorological Department predicts snow in the mountains soon.
Severe Cold Grips Himachal, Snowfall Expected Soon
The biting cold in Himachal Pradesh has brought daily life to a standstill in many regions. While residents are battling freezing temperatures, with some areas experiencing sub-zero conditions, the plains are reeling under a cold wave. To stay warm, locals can be seen gathering around bonfires, especially in the mornings and evenings.
After a brief spell of clear skies, the state is now on the brink of fresh snowfall. The weather department has forecast snowfall on January 2 and 3 in the higher and middle-altitude regions, with light rain accompanying it. The lower areas, however, are expected to remain dry during this period. Between January 4 and 6, lower regions may see rainfall, while snowfall is likely in higher altitudes.
Dense Fog Disrupts Plains
Dense fog has significantly reduced visibility in the plains, particularly during morning and evening hours, causing inconvenience for commuters. Regions like Bilaspur, Mandi, Una, and Nahan are experiencing heavy fog, prompting the weather department to issue a yellow alert for areas near Bhakra Dam and Balh.
Sub-Zero Temperatures in Hill Stations
The last snowfall was recorded on December 27, but the lack of fresh snow over New Year’s left many tourists slightly disappointed. However, popular spots like Rohtang and Lahaul-Spiti still offer stunning snow-covered views. Currently, six cities in the state have reported temperatures dropping below freezing, with Tabo recording the coldest at -16.7°C. In contrast, Sundernagar recorded the highest temperature at 21.8°C.
As Himachal braces for a new weather phase, residents and visitors are advised to stay prepared and take necessary precautions to navigate these challenging conditions.
