Himachal Shivers After Snowfall, More Chill Ahead as Fresh Alerts Issued
Himachal Pradesh is gripped by an intense cold wave following recent snowfall, which has brought temperatures plummeting across the region. The Shimla Meteorological Department has predicted more snow and rain on December 27, 28, and 29, signaling harsher weather ahead.
Snow and Rain Forecast
According to the forecast, snowfall is likely in the upper and mid-hill regions of the state, while the lower and plain areas are expected to receive rain on December 27 and 28. An alert has been issued for December 29, with heavy snowfall and rain anticipated in the higher altitudes and mid-hills. The weather, however, is expected to clear up on other days.
Cold Wave Tightens Its Grip
A cold wave alert has been issued for the lower and plains areas of Himachal. Severe cold conditions persist in Una, Hamirpur, Sundernagar, and Chamba, while dense fog has enveloped parts of Bilaspur and Mandi districts, adding to the chill.
The snowfall has been significant in certain areas, with Koksar recording the highest at 5.7 cm. Other areas like Shilaro and Khadrala reported 5.0 cm each, followed by Pooh at 2.0 cm, Kalpa at 1.8 cm, Sangla at 1.2 cm, and Keylong, Gondla, and Jot at 1.0 cm each.
Temperatures Dip Below Freezing
Several regions have recorded sub-zero temperatures, intensifying the cold wave. Tabo emerged as the coldest location, shivering at -10.6°C. Kukumseri recorded -8.2°C, Samdo -6.9°C, Kalpa -4.0°C, Narkanda -2.1°C, Reckong Peo -0.9°C, Bharmour -0.7°C, and Manali -0.3°C.
Minimum Temperatures Across Himachal
Shimla saw a minimum temperature of 2.0°C, while Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded 3.1°C and 1.1°C, respectively. Dharamshala recorded 5.2°C, Una 2.8°C, Nahan 7.1°C, Palampur 2.4°C, and Kangra 4.8°C. Other notable readings include Mandi (5.5°C), Bilaspur (5.1°C), Hamirpur and Chamba (3.2°C each), Jubbarhatti (4.6°C), Kufri (0.1°C), Seobagh (0.3°C), and Bajaura (1.7°C).
Residents in the affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions, as the biting cold is expected to persist. With more snow and rain on the horizon, Himachal’s winter season is turning out to be as harsh as it is picturesque.
