Himachal takes major step to boost natural farming, corn purchased from 400 plus farmers

The Himachal Pradesh government is ramping up its efforts to promote natural farming, announcing that it will purchase corn from farmers practicing natural methods. Under the leadership of the Sukhu government, 65 metric tons of corn produced through natural farming will be bought, benefiting farmers across several districts.

Farmers who have embraced natural farming have been reaping the rewards of their hard work, thanks to the incentives provided by the state government. The Natural Farming initiative continues to gain momentum as more people in the state understand its importance. As this practice expands, its positive results are becoming increasingly evident. Farmers connected to this initiative are now growing corn and other crops using natural techniques, and the state government has committed to purchasing their produce directly.

The Himachal Pradesh government has set a minimum support price of ₹30 per kilogram for corn grown using natural methods. This is a significant move aimed at enhancing farmers’ incomes, fostering self-reliance, and supporting sustainable agricultural practices. Under the Agriculture Department’s core project, 431 farmers from various districts have been identified, with approximately 65 metric tons of corn already purchased.

To facilitate the procurement of naturally grown corn, the government has established purchasing centers in four locations across the Market Districts—Churag, Chaulchowk, Sundernagar, and Karsog. Farmers have expressed their satisfaction with the support price announced by the state government.

Farmers in Karsog and Gohar Subdivision, have all praised the government’s decision. They believe that by setting the price at ₹30 per kilogram and committing to purchasing their corn, the government has made a commendable move that ensures fair compensation.

Expressing gratitude to Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, farmers are hopeful that this initiative will help them secure a fair price for their crops, ultimately boosting their income and paving the way for economic self-reliance through sustainable farming practices.
