Higher reaches of state received fresh snowfall last night. Report of snowfall is coming from Kullu, Chamba, Mandi, Sirmaur, Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti including Hills Queen received snowfall. The Mall Road, US Club, Jakhu in Shimla had three to four cm snowfall. The higher areas of the district, Kufri, Narkanda, Khadapathar and Chaupal, received 10 to 12 cm inches of fresh snow. Hindustan Tibet National Highway -5 beyond Dhali toward Kufri upto Narkanda blocked by snow at few places moreover many roads in rural areas of Shimla district including National Highway-5 have been blocked for traffic. The district administration has advised the tourists including the local people to drive carefully in the snow and avoid unnecessary journeys. After snowfall, the journey became dangerous due to the increase in slippery conditions, on NH-5 near Kufri, Due to slippery roads vehicles are collided and hitting their rear and front bumpers since last evening. Other places of state especially unfathomable places like Chauharghati and Parashar Valley of Mandi also received major spell of snowfall. Losar in Lahaul Spiti, Rohtang Tunnel, Kunjumpas, Baralacha had two to three feet piles of snow. The snow is called white manure and a natural tonic for the agriculture-horticulture. With fresh snowfall hospitality and tourism industry may get a flip which was hit due to dearth of snowfall in Shimla town especially. According to Shimla police about 7700 vehicles entered the Shimla town till Friday evening. With ending dry spell and literally draught like conditions Farmers and Apple growers could have respite as chilling hours and fertilizers could be absorbed in the moist soils. According to the Meteorological Department, light rain and snowfall may occur in some areas of the state today, but the weather will remain clear from tomorrow till January 17. The weathermen also forecast major rain and snowfall again on 18th and 19th January in the state. IMD said that there is generally cloudy weather in Shimla, Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur district could receive fresh light snowfall today.
