Development Work Resumes in Himachal as Election Code of Conduct Ends
The election code of conduct will end today following the declaration of election results in Himachal on June 4. This will mark the resumption of development work in the state after an 81-day hiatus. Development activities had been on hold since the announcement of by-elections for six assembly seats on March 16, coinciding with the Lok Sabha elections.
During the code of conduct period, all development work required approval from the Election Commission, causing significant delays. With the lifting of these restrictions, development projects will now accelerate throughout the state. Additionally, the public will benefit from government welfare schemes, including the Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana, which provides a monthly pension of Rs 1500 to women. The government has pledged to deposit two months’ pension as a lump sum into the accounts of eligible women starting in June.
Government to Address Pending Works and Recruitment
With the election code of conduct no longer in effect, the government will now prioritize pending projects. The Chief Minister is expected to convene a cabinet meeting to address these issues. Recruitment in government departments, which had been stalled, will also resume. This includes batchwise recruitment of JBT and TGT teachers in the education department, appointments of Ayurvedic Medical Officers, and Veterinary Pharmacists.
The cabinet is expected to pass the matter concerning pre-nursery teachers in the education department. Meanwhile, the government is currently involved in a court case regarding Van Mitra recruitment. Contract employees who have completed their two-year period but have not yet been regularized will now see progress in their employment status. Consequently, the lifting of the code of conduct will create new job opportunities for the unemployed and facilitate the regularization of eligible employees.
