Government should immediately constitute State Agricultural Marketing Board
Shakti Ram Kashyap, chief organizer of the Congress Seva Dal Kasumpti, has demanded the state government immediately reconstitute the Himachal Pradesh State Agricultural Marketing Board. He said that due to the current lack of a Himachal Pradesh State Agricultural Marketing Board, many facilities available to farmers and orchardists are being affected. The Agricultural Marketing Board has always worked to protect the interests of farmers and orchardists and expand their facilities, and this organization has always been profitable.
He said that to make the marketing of agricultural produce in Himachal Pradesh systematic and transparent, the Himachal Pradesh Agricultural Produce Market Act, 1969 was implemented in the year 1972. This Act was enacted to ensure smooth operation of the buying and selling, storage, processing and other marketing activities of agricultural produce.
He stated that the Act’s primary objective is to provide proper representation to farmers, orchardists, traders, and agricultural experts in market management, ensuring that farmers and orchardists receive fair prices for their produce through open auction. Furthermore, it also aims to eliminate unauthorized deductions, reduce the role of middlemen, and provide farmers with daily market price information.
He urged the state government to constitute the Himachal Pradesh State Agricultural Marketing Board without any delay, keeping in mind the interests of farmers, gardeners and traders, so that people associated with agriculture and horticulture sector can get full benefit of the facilities available under the Act.
