Youth Sumit of the hills will be honoured with “National Youth Award” in Parliament House
Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, is going to honour her with “National Youth Award” in view of her social service and awareness work.
Sumit Thakur of Shuru village of Manali in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh has emerged as an inspiration for the youth of the state, he has emerged as a youth icon. Sumit is also the co-founder of Yuva: Youth for Voluntary Action in Himachal.
Due to his public service work, he has also been awarded the President’s Award by the Government of India in the year 2020 by His Excellency President Shri Ram Nath Kovind ji. The President’s Award for NSS by the Government of India and the District Administration including the Central and State Government have awarded him in view of his dedicated work, which gives authenticity to his work.
And now in this series, for the first time this National Youth Award will be organized in the New Parliament House of India. This award is being given to around 10 youths in India.
For which the selection of Sumit Thakur is a proud moment for the entire Himachal Pradesh and an inspiration for the youth.
From the age of 15, when youth are not able to differentiate between good and bad for themselves, the feeling of doing something for the society has given Sumit a distinct identity. Sumit, who had a deep feeling towards social service from a young age, wanted to donate blood before the age of 18, but his age came in the way. However, as soon as he turned 18, he has made that resolution come true by donating blood 21 times, bringing happiness in the lives of others.
Sumit Thakur had been playing a leading role in rallies and programs organized for environmental protection since his school days, which he gave a different direction after going to college.
Sumit Thakur has studied up to postgraduate in commerce.
If the feeling of dedication and doing something for the society is awakened in the mind then even mountains of challenges can be crossed.
Sumit felt so interested in service that
Sumit has also taken a firm decision to donate all the organs of his body after death. He keeps raising awareness about environmental conservation and inspires people by planting trees himself.
During his college education, he came up with a new idea for environmental protection in which a plant would be given as a gift to the person whose birthday it was and it would be planted and by taking care of it for three years, a significant contribution to environmental protection would be ensured.
Sumit, who has established a distinct identity through public awareness camps and rallies, has played an important role in keeping the people safe by running a public awareness campaign for 200 days through Mission Digital Corona Awareness during the Corona period and distributing essential items like medicines, masks, ration etc.
To continue the service work, many youths of the state formed Yuva NGO under the leadership of Sumit in which Sumit was unanimously elected as the president. Today this NGO has organized more than 2000 youths in the state and is doing many works like helping the needy, blood donation, environmental protection, organ donation awareness.
Sumit’s contribution in helping and providing relief material to the affected people during the flood in Manali is noteworthy.
Sumit aims to empower the youth and involve them in nation-society building, by staying away from drugs, women empowerment and clean homes and villages and by developing leadership skills in the youth, to use that power in social development and to donate blood 100 times in his life.
Which establishes him as a youth icon.
On the announcement of his selection for the National Youth Award, a feeling of pride has been aroused in his home region, Kullu and entire Himachal Pradesh, and there has been a flood of congratulatory messages on social media.
Former Chief Minister of the State Shri Jai Ram Thakur, MP and actress Kanna Ranaut, Dr. Rajiv Bhardwaj, former Education Minister Govind Thakur also sent congratulations and best wishes from their social media handles and called this achievement inspirational for the youth of the State.
Sumit Thakur will be honoured with this award at the National Youth Parliament 2025 at the New Indian Parliament House.
