Wrong decisions and misleading data have pushed Himachal into crisis : Sudhir Sharma
Dharamshala MLA and former minister Sudhir Sharma launched a scathing attack on the current state government, saying that the government’s wrong decisions and careless actions are directly responsible for the economic and administrative crisis Himachal Pradesh is facing today. He questioned why the state’s people should suffer the consequences of the government’s mistakes.
Sudhir Sharma said that it is extremely unfortunate that the government has completely failed to strongly present the state’s case before a constitutional forum like the Finance Commission. He asked who was responsible for advocating for Himachal’s interests and who failed to fulfill that responsibility. He alleged that the state’s true situation was presented in a weak light by submitting inaccurate and misleading data, the consequences of which the general public is suffering today.
He said that the decision regarding the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) is not limited to Himachal Pradesh alone, but is a policy decision for the entire country. He said that the Congress government in Karnataka also welcomed this decision, but the Himachal government is making it a political issue to hide its own failures and is misleading the public.
The former minister made serious allegations, saying that the government reported a higher per capita income for the state than the actual income, thereby presenting a better economic situation on paper. Furthermore, the names of millions of eligible people were removed from the BPL list, which directly impacted central assistance and welfare schemes. He said that this is why the state did not receive the expected assistance, and the poor and middle class were affected.
Sudhir Sharma said that instead of relying on the existing administrative structure, the government has started a wrong trend by bringing retired officers to the helm. This has lowered the morale of serving officers and weakened the decision-making process. He questioned why there is a reliance on retired officers when competent officers are already present.
He said that those who are making claims of a “self-reliant Himachal by 2027” today are responsible for bringing the state to this point. Self-reliance comes not from slogans and posters, but from clear policy, accurate data, and strong will.
Finally, Sudhir Sharma demanded that the government accept responsibility for its decisions and present a clear, credible, and honest economic roadmap to the people of the state. He said that Himachal needs answers today, not accusations—because power is not a privilege, it’s accountability.
