Under Khelo India Policy-2025, 18 Khelo India Centres are operational in 12 districts of Himachal
BJP MP Mr. Suresh Kashyap raised an important question in the Lok Sabha regarding the development of sports infrastructure, identification, and training of athletes in Himachal Pradesh, especially in the hilly areas. He sought information on the provisions and plans being made to promote sports in mountainous states like Himachal under the Khelo India Policy-2025.
Responding to a question from MP Suresh Kashyap, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya stated that the Khelo India Policy 2025 aims to develop a strong, inclusive, and performance-oriented sports ecosystem in India. This policy focuses on strengthening sports infrastructure across the country, identifying athletes, and providing them with training.
The Minister said that since sports is a state subject, the primary responsibility for development of sports infrastructure lies with the state governments, while the Central Government provides support to the states through its schemes and programmes.
He informed that under the Khelo India scheme, a total of 18 Khelo India Centres (KICs) are operating in 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh, where approximately 280 athletes are being trained by former Olympians. This provides the state’s young athletes with high-level training and opportunities to advance in sports.
Additionally, financial assistance is provided under the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) and Khelo India Scheme for the construction and upgradation of sports infrastructure across the country, thereby strengthening sports facilities.
Member of Parliament Suresh Kashyap stated that Himachal Pradesh has no shortage of sporting talent and that, provided they receive proper facilities and training, the state’s athletes can bring glory to the country at the national and international levels. He commended the central government’s efforts to develop sports and expressed hope that sports infrastructure and training facilities in Himachal Pradesh would be further strengthened in the future.
