Under-14 zonal sports competition begins in Durgapur

The four-day zonal-level sports competition for under-14 boys and girls of the Mashobra Education Block began on Friday at the Government Senior Secondary School, Durgapur. A total of 419 athletes from 18 schools in the Mashobra Block are showcasing their athletic talents. These include 247 boys and 172 girls.
Ashish Kohli, Director of Education, formally inaugurated the competition. He saluted the impressive march past presented by athletes from various schools. The sports organizing committee honored the chief guest with a Himachali cap, a shawl, and a memento. Nisha Bhaluni, Deputy Director of Elementary Education, attended the event as a special guest.
In his address, Director Ashish Kohli stated that sports hold special significance in students’ lives. Sports foster physical, mental, and intellectual development, instilling in children a sense of competition, leadership, discipline, hard work, and cooperation. He urged athletes to participate in competitions with a sporting spirit. He stated that more important than winning or losing in sports is the effort an athlete puts forth to achieve their goal.
School Principal and Competition Coordinator Banwari Lal Keshav welcomed the chief guest and provided detailed information about the competition. He stated that volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, badminton, judo, chess, and cultural competitions would be held during the four-day competition.
Sports in-charge Nandlal Sharma, physical teachers from various schools, players, local people and other dignitaries were present in the program.
