Una’s Hero: Dilawar Khan Honored with Kirti Chakra for Supreme Sacrifice

Dilawar Khan, a braveheart from Himachal Pradesh’s Una district, has been posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award, for his extraordinary courage and ultimate sacrifice. A resident of Gharwasda village in Bangana tehsil, Dilawar Khan gave his life protecting the nation during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir in July 2024. At the time, he was just 28 years old.

Born in March 1996, Dilawar served with distinction in the 28th Battalion of the Rashtriya Rifles (RR). His parents, Karmdin and Bholan Bibi, are filled with pride for their son, whose bravery has brought honor to their family and state.

A Story of Valor and Dedication

On July 23, 2024, Dilawar Khan was part of a search operation in the Lolab Valley of Kupwara district. During the mission, his team encountered two terrorists, one of whom was dangerously close to their position. In a moment that demanded immense courage, Dilawar tackled the terrorist in a close-quarters hand-to-hand fight.

Despite sustaining severe injuries, Dilawar held his ground and neutralized the terrorist at point-blank range, ensuring his team’s safety. Tragically, he succumbed to his wounds shortly after, leaving behind a legacy of unmatched bravery.

Dilawar’s journey with the Indian Army began when he joined at the young age of 18, driven by his passion for serving the nation. His heroism has made every citizen of Himachal Pradesh proud. As the nation salutes his valor, Dilawar Khan will always be remembered as a fearless soldier who gave his all for Bharat Mata.

His posthumous Kirti Chakra is a tribute to his indomitable spirit and unwavering dedication. Dilawar’s sacrifice will continue to inspire generations to serve with courage and honor.
