Two earthquakes shook parts of Mandi and Lahaul Spiti According to the IMD

Two earthquakes shook parts of Mandi and Lahaul Spiti districts in Himachal Pradesh yesterday. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), both earthquakes measured 3.2 on the Richter scale, with no casualties or property damage reported.

  • Mandi district: The earthquake struck at 06:56 hrs on March 4, 2024, with its epicenter located at Longitude 31.57 and Latitude 77.18, at a depth of 5 km in Koel, Thunag subdivision, approximately 250 km from Shimla.
  • Lahaul Spiti district: Occurring at 13:28 hrs on March 4, 2024, the earthquake had its epicenter at Longitude 32.15 and Latitude 77.67, at a depth of 5 km, about 300 km from Shimla.

Himachal Pradesh resides in a seismically active region, where earthquakes are common, though typically of low magnitude and cause minimal harm. However, it’s essential to remain prepared by adhering to safety guidelines provided by authorities.
