Tourism department could not arrange basic facilities in Serjagas for paragliding
Despite nearly a decade having passed, the tourism department has not been able to create basic facilities for paragliding in Ser Jagas near Rajgarh, due to which paragliding has not been taking place in Ser Jagas for the past few years. It should be noted that the Tourism and Aviation Department of Himachal Pradesh has described paragliding in Ser Jagas as the most suitable site after Bir Billing, where the best facilities for takeoff and landing are available for pilots. Although paragliding has been organized many times at this site, but due to lack of facilities, pilots from India and abroad are not interested in coming. Let us tell you that for the first time in the 2000s, a young and courageous daughter of Bilaspur surprised people by flying paragliding in Rajgarh. Thereafter, the tourism department got this site technically surveyed and certified for paragliding.
It is worth noting that about seven years ago, the tourism department had sanctioned an amount of two crores under the scheme ‘Nai Raahein-Nai Manzilein’ for developing a paragliding site at Ser Jagas in Rajgarh. Under this ambitious scheme, several development works including construction of road to the paragliding site, cafeteria, changing room, landscaping etc. were included in the plan. Assistant Engineer of PWD Hamendra Sharma said that a 2.5 km paved road has been constructed from Ser Jagas to the paragliding site. An amount of about two crores has been spent on it.
He said that no budget has been released by the government for creation of other facilities at this site. Whereas after the project of constructing an artificial lake in Karganu was cancelled, its budget of Rs. 2.5 crore was transferred for the paragliding site which is buried in the files of the tourism department till date.
The intellectuals of the area say that with the development of the paragliding site, the name of the Rajgarh region was to be inscribed on the international tourism map, but due to the apathy of the department, this project has been hanging in the balance for years due to lack of budget.
When District Tourism Development Officer Solan Sirmaur was talked to about creation of basic facilities for paragliding at Ser Jagas, he said that he does not have any information available in this regard.
