A UNICEF report shocked everyone in May 2022. According to that report, the problem of PCOD is increasing among women in South India and Maharashtra. Its level has increased so much that it cannot be ignored now. In these two areas, about 9.13% women suffer from PCOS and 22% women from PCOD.

Dr. Chanchal Sharma, Director and Gynecologist of Asha Ayurveda, says that in India, where people did not even talk about periods among themselves, now women’s menstrual health problems are being openly discussed, this is a huge achievement and it has taken us several decades to reach here. Nowadays, due to the changing lifestyle, some woman in almost every house is suffering from a disease like PCOD or PCOS. The surprising thing is that this disease does not affect women of a particular age, but it can happen to anyone from youth to women above 30. There is still a lack of awareness and information about this disease among people, there are many women who do not have any information about the symptoms, causes and treatment of this disease. Generally, women suffering from this disease start showing symptoms like hair on the face, irregular periods etc.

What is PCOD-PCOS?

This disease caused by hormonal imbalance affects the ovaries of women. Often in women, both ovaries prepare fertilized eggs one by one during the menstrual cycle. But the ovaries of women who have PCOD problem release an egg every time during the menstrual cycle which has not yet matured and then it becomes a cyst.

The problem of PCOD is increasing globally

PCOD is a problem arising from hormonal imbalance which has affected about 10% of women worldwide and sometimes if it is not treated at the right time, it can also lead to infertility. The women who fall prey to this disease are mainly women aged 20-35 years. It is not possible to treat it only with medicines, you have to change your lifestyle only then this disease can be eradicated from the root.

Problems caused by PCOD

The increasing scope of this disease becomes an obstacle in the dream of many women to become mothers and becomes the cause of lifelong disappointment and depression. Unwanted hair starts growing on the face and chest of women and irregularities in periods are seen. Serious problems like weight gain, diabetes etc. can also be seen in women.

What is the reason for the increasing problem of PCOD?

Even today, there are many areas in a country like India where women often do not talk openly about their reproductive life, so even if they have any such problem, they are unaware of it and gradually when this problem takes a serious form and creates obstacles in pregnancy, then they come to know about it. Nowadays, people’s eating habits, way of living is a big reason behind this, in which people’s physical activity is decreasing and mental stress is increasing, in such a situation, the number of patients suffering from hormonal diseases is also increasing.

Treatment of PCOD

While explaining about this disease, Dr. Chanchal Sharma says that there is no prescribed treatment possible for it, but if you take some precautions, you can protect yourself from it, like you make changes in your lifestyle, eat naturally available foods, try to avoid processed and packaged food items, do regular yoga or exercise, and get your problem checked with the help of a healthcare provider and take appropriate medicines. By doing this you can avoid the harmful effects of this disease and live a better life by reducing future risks.
