Ten kilometers of the Chhalanda-Peeran road has turned into potholes

The approximately ten-kilometer stretch of the Chhalanda-Peeran road, which falls under the Junga tehsil, from Anji to Peeran and Khaltu, is in very bad condition. The road is riddled with large potholes at many places, causing significant inconvenience to drivers and local residents.
Local residents Rajiv Sharma, Pritam Singh Thakur, Manohar Singh Thakur, Daya Ram Verma, and Jabar Singh Thakur, along with other villagers, said the road hasn’t been repaired in the past two years. They say the situation has become so dire that “it’s not the potholes in the road, but the road appears to be in the potholes.” The deep potholes are damaging the chambers and other parts of small vehicles, and there’s a constant risk of accidents.
Villagers report that the dangerous slope from the Nariga Bridge to Jagher has not had crash barriers or parapets constructed for nearly 30 years. Vehicles loaded with tomatoes and other vegetables often get stuck on this uphill stretch, leading to numerous accidents.
Residents also reported that no crash barriers have been installed at the sharp curves (scissors) near the Nariga Bridge. Drivers must approach these curves with extreme caution, and this section remains particularly risky for heavy vehicles.
The villagers have demanded from the Public Works Department and the state government to immediately repair the road and ensure necessary safety measures, so that any major accident can be avoided in the future.
Dharmendra Kumar, Deputy Engineer (JE) of the Public Works Department, Junga, stated that due to a lack of funds, the road from Anji to Piran and Khaltu could not be paved. He added that an estimate of 30 lakh rupees was prepared and submitted to the government two years ago to install crash barriers at the shears and embankment near the Nariga Bridge.
