Sukhu reviews ongoing work of utility ducts, directs completing tarring upto Shimla Club by 10th May
While presiding over a meeting of the Public Works Department here today, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu directed the officers to finish the tarring work of utility ducts upto Shimla Club by 10th May and upto Lift by 15th June this year to facilitate the commuters. He said that Rs. 145 crore was being spent to construct utility ducts, spanning in seven kilometers from Chhota Shimla to Willy’s Park of Shimla town. He directed the department to expedite the work and complete it within the fixed timeframe.
Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that Shimla being not only state capital but also a major tourist destination, attracts lakhs of tourists every year. He said that the city must be free from clutter of overhead cables to offer better experience for the tourists and this project will be a major attraction to further boost tourists inflow in Shimla. He said that Shimla is known as the queen of hills and its glory must be maintained.
The utility duct would extend from Chhota Shimla to Willy’s Park, Secretariat via Lok Bhawan to Oak Over and from Sher-e-Punjab through Lower Bazar upto CTO and further upto Willy’s Park. These ducts would accommodate underground electric and water lines along-with other utility cables and will enhance the aesthetic appeal of the city.
Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan, Secretaries to the Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar and Ashish Singhmar and senior officers of PWD were present in the meeting.
