State level rugby competition concluded in Sundernagar
13 players from Mashobra School participated in this competition
The first-ever Under-12 Boys and Girls State-Level Rugby Championship was successfully held at the Government Polytechnic, Sundernagar. 104 players from Shimla, Kullu, Bilaspur, Mandi, and Sirmaur participated, including approximately 45 girls. Thirteen players from the Government Senior Secondary School, Mashobra, also participated. This event is considered an important initiative toward promoting rugby at the grassroots level in Himachal Pradesh. Fisheries Department Director Vivek Chandel attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest. He praised the event, saying that sports are an important means of developing discipline, team spirit, and self-confidence in children.
Dr. Vikas Sood, President of the Rugby Association of Himachal Pradesh, stated that the Rugby Association of Himachal Pradesh (RUHP) is continuously striving to promote rugby at the grassroots level in the state. He added that organizing competitions at the under-12 level is an important step toward nurturing future athletic talent.
He stated that the AHP’s objective is to take rugby to schools and rural areas so that children can get opportunities in the sport from an early age. Dr. Sood said that this competition clearly demonstrated the growing influence of rugby in Himachal Pradesh and the interest of children. The results of this competition were as follows: In the girls’ category, Sirmaur won the gold medal, Shimla won the silver medal, and Kullu won the bronze medal. Similarly, in the boys’ category, Sirmaur won the gold medal, Shimla won the silver medal, and Sirmaur won the bronze medal.
Rugby Association General Secretary Vishal Sarin said that the successful holding of the first Under-12 Rugby Championship reflects the growing enthusiasm for rugby in the state. He added that holding competitions at younger age groups is crucial for developing confidence, discipline, and a sports culture in children. He stated that RAHP is committed to organizing regular competitions at the district and state levels in the future, providing players with continued opportunities and competitive experience
