Rabies is a deadly but preventable viral disease that affects both, wild and domesticated mammals and spreads by the bite of an infected animal. In a first of its kind vaccination drive, 103 dogs were successfully vaccinated against rabies in areas of Rajhana, Nehra, Jhanjidi, Chhota Shimla, New Shimla, Mehli and Malyana in a single day. The drive was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Anil Sharma, Veterinary Polyclinic Rampur with the help of Dr. Parinita Prashar, Mr. Rajinder Pal, Mr. Ajay Sharma & Mr. Roop Chand from veterinary hospital Panthghati, Dr. Vibhuti Sharda, Mr. Kulwant Singh and Mr. Cyrus Mohan from SPCA Shimla, Mr. Rajat Negi and Ms. Deepali Mehta from Humane People and Dr. Navin Jothra, Dr. Sandeep Singh Chaudhary and Dr. Aman Malpotra from Veterinary University Palampur. Local volunteers and dog feeders from these areas helped in the vaccination drive, to keep their community dogs as well as their community safe. Anti-rabies vaccination will be done in other areas too in a planned and systematic manner in the coming weeks as well in collaboration with Department of Animal Husbandry and MC Shimla.
