SJVN organizes Dam Safety Awareness Program at NJHPS

Sh. Bhupender Gupta, CMD, SJVN informed that SJVN’s Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station (NJHPS) in association with National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) organised a Dam Safety Awareness Program at Jhakri today. This community awareness program aimed at enhancing awareness on Dam Safety and promoting proactive measures for risk mitigation and emergency preparedness.

On this occasion, Sh. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), SJVN said that this initiative underscored the importance of coordinated stakeholder engagement, public awareness and environmental responsibility in fostering culture of dam safety.

The awareness program was inaugurated by Dr. Amit Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Kinnaur and Sh. Saurabh Agarwal, Member (Admin & Finance) NDSA. In his welcome address, Sh. Rajeev Kapoor, Head of Project (NJHPS) stated that such initiatives are being organised to promote community awareness in the region.

During the program, various experts and officials from IMD, NDRF, ISRO, NRSC and state administration delivered presentations on dam safety, disaster management, weather forecasting and role of communities. The experts also shared their experiences and emphasised on importance of modern technologies and co-ordinated efforts in dam safety. A community interaction session enabled local residents especially people from downstream villages to voice their concerns, share experience and offer suggestions regarding safety measures and early warning systems. The latter half of the program included an awareness march by students, a tree plantation campaign and performances featuring skits centred on flood safety and disaster awareness.

The focus of the program was on dam safety, disaster preparedness, flood management and community participation.
