Shimla’s New Budget Brings Exciting Changes for 2025-26

Starting April 1, Himachal Pradesh has rolled out a fresh set of initiatives with the new financial year 2025-26, driven by the Shimla Municipal Corporation’s latest budget. This budget, amounting to ₹188.53 crores, is packed with plans aimed at enhancing the city’s development and improving the quality of life for its residents.

Key Highlights:

  • Smart Waste Management: A ₹3 crore project to implement an Integrated Smart Solid Waste Management System.
  • Tourist-Friendly E-Cards: New e-cards for tourists to explore Shimla’s heritage sites with guided tours.
  • Pet and Stray Dog Survey: Microchipping and sterilization initiatives for better animal management.
  • Rain Shelters: Completion of 5 rain shelters along Panthaghati to Tara Devi, with 6 more to come, costing ₹1.25 crores.
  • Community Facilities: Development of parks, parking, playgrounds, open gyms, and patient vehicle roads based on ward suggestions.
  • PNG Distribution Plant: A new plant by Indian Oil Adani Gas Private Limited in Daini’s garden.
  • E-Carts for Tourists: Collaboration with the tourism department to showcase Shimla’s heritage buildings.
  • Commercial Rates for Home Shops: Adjusting rates for shops operating in residential areas.
  • Youth Sports Facilities: New playgrounds and open gyms to keep youth engaged and away from drugs.
  • Pink Toilets for Women: Modern facilities for women within the municipal area.
  • Digital Services: Birth and death certificates now available online.
  • Environmental Initiatives: Planting 5000 trees for forest conservation and environmental protection.
  • Monthly Haat: Display and sale of self-help group products under the National Urban Livelihood Mission.
  • C&D Waste Management: A systematic approach to the collection, transportation, and disposal of construction and demolition waste.
  • Support for Widows and Disabled: Priority for new shops and parking spaces.
  • Solar Lights: Installation of 1000 solar lights within the municipal area.
  • Expansion of RRR Centers: Opening 3 more Reduce Reuse Recycle centers.
  • E-Vehicle Transition: Gradual conversion of municipal vehicles to e-vehicles.
  • Vending Zone in Sanjauli: A new vending zone for hawkers, costing ₹15 crores.
  • Premium Guest House: A new guest house near Kamla Nehru Hospital.
