Shimla Police Step Up Fight Against Drugs, Traffic Woes, and Safety Concerns
Shimla’s police force is sharpening its focus on some of the city’s biggest challenges—drug abuse, women’s safety, and traffic congestion. Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh announced a multi-pronged strategy aimed at dismantling drug supply chains, targeting kingpins operating outside the state, and seizing properties acquired through drug money. Repeat offenders under the NDPS Act will face tougher action, signaling zero tolerance for the menace.
But the plan isn’t just about enforcement. The police will also partner with NGOs to spread awareness among youth and help reintegrate addicts into society, giving families hope for recovery and a safer community.
On another front, Shimla’s traffic jams—an everyday frustration for locals and tourists—are being tackled head-on. With 42 new traffic personnel set to be recruited, the city hopes to ease bottlenecks, especially during peak tourist seasons. Special arrangements are being planned to keep vehicles moving smoothly despite the town’s limited road infrastructure.
The SSP also emphasized improving women’s safety, pledging stronger measures to reduce crimes against women.
For Shimla’s residents, these steps reflect a broader commitment: not just policing, but building a city where people feel secure, where youth are protected from drugs, and where the charm of the hill station isn’t overshadowed by gridlocked roads.
