Senior Journalist Gaurav Bisht Passes Away After Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Shimla’s Media Community Mourns

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Gaurav Bisht, a seasoned journalist with Hindustan Times, tragically passed away late last night following a sudden cardiac arrest. The 49-year-old, a resident of Chota Shimla, had been cautioned by doctors about his heart condition and advised to take necessary precautions.

Despite these warnings, Bisht was unable to reach the hospital in time, and his condition rapidly deteriorated. He was rushed to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla after falling critically ill on the night of August 28, but, sadly, the doctors at IGMC declared him dead upon arrival.

A post-mortem examination is being conducted today, following which his mortal remains will be taken to his native place in Rohru, Shimla district, for cremation.

Bisht’s sudden passing has left his family—his mother, brother, wife, and son—devastated. This tragedy highlights the growing health risks faced by media professionals, particularly those working under the relentless pressures of journalism.

This marks the third untimely loss of a journalist in Shimla within the last three months, leaving the local journalistic community in a state of deep sorrow. Colleagues and friends are grappling with the shock of losing a respected member of their community.

Leaders and peers have expressed their heartfelt condolences to Bisht’s family. Himachal Pradesh Kissan Sabha Leader Dr. Kuldeep Singh Tanwar remarked that the death of a working journalist is a tragic and unbelievable loss for the entire town. President of the Shimla Working Journalist Forum Kanwar Yogendra, Editor of Himachal Scape Vishal Sarin, Editor of Reporters Eye O P Thakur, and Senior Correspondent Mohan Lal Verma also shared their grief, describing the loss of their colleague as profoundly painful.

Gaurav Bisht’s untimely departure serves as a somber reminder of the heavy toll that the demands of journalism can take on the health and well-being of media professionals.
