Second Phase of Census 2027 Successfully Completed in Himachal’s Snow-Bound Areas
The fieldwork for the second phase of Census 2027, known as Population Enumeration, has been successfully completed in the snow-bound regions of Himachal Pradesh within the stipulated timeline. The exercise was carried out digitally through a mobile application from September 1 to September 30, 2026, followed by a revision phase from October 1 to October 5, 2026.
During this phase, information was collected from all residents living in the snow-bound areas of the state through 40 officially notified questions. The data gathered covers key demographic, social and economic indicators, including literacy, migration, fertility, and other important socio-economic parameters.
Completing this nationally significant exercise within the prescribed timeframe amid difficult terrain, remote locations, and challenging weather conditions is a matter of pride for Himachal Pradesh.
The successful execution of this massive exercise was made possible under the guidance of the Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh, the Secretary (General Administration) and State Census Nodal Officer, and the Director of the Census Operations Directorate, Himachal Pradesh. The strategic planning and effective management by Deputy Commissioners, Municipal Commissioners, and all Charge Officers in the snow-bound regions also played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth completion of this complex task.
The true heroes of this achievement were the enumerators and supervisors, whose dedication, courage, and tireless efforts enabled accurate data collection through door-to-door visits across difficult and inaccessible areas. Their commitment ensured the successful implementation of this nationwide mission at the grassroots level.
The Census Operations Directorate, Himachal Pradesh, has expressed its gratitude to all residents of the snow-bound regions for their cooperation. The accurate information provided and the active participation of the people were instrumental in the successful completion of this important national exercise.
