SC gives green signal to Jairam govt’s Shimla development plan, former minister Suresh Bhardwaj congratulated the city residents
Jairam government’s Shimla development plan has now got the green signal from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has rejected the 2017 decision of the National Green Tribunal, which had imposed a condition of two and a half floors on construction activities in the Shimla planning area. Along with this, there was a complete ban on building construction in Shimla Core and Green Area also. Former Urban Minister Suresh Bhardwaj said that the people of Shimla city were in dire need of these orders. He thanked the High Court for this decision in public interest.
He said that Jairam government had filed an appeal against this decision. By canceling these orders of NGT, the state government has been ordered to give approval for construction of buildings in this area as per the new plan. In the Supreme Court on Thursday, a division bench of Justice BR Gavai, Justice PK Mishra and Sandeep Mehta overturned the November 2017 decision of the National Green Tribunal.
The Supreme Court had challenged the NGT’s 2017 decision on the complaint of Yogendra Mohan Sen during the hearing of a special leave petition (SLP) filed by the Himachal Pradesh government in 2018-19. In this, a complete ban was imposed on construction activities in Shimla planning area.
