Safe Roads, Shared Responsibility: Shimla’s Administration Message to Visitors
Amid a bustling winter tourist season, officials in Shimla took to the scenic but precarious roads of Kufri this weekend with a heartfelt appeal: safety is a shared responsibility.
Led by Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap and Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, a special awareness drive aimed to educate visitors on navigating the district’s challenging terrain. With tourist numbers climbing each winter, the administration stressed that responsible behavior behind the wheel is more critical than ever.
Kashyap’s message was direct and practical, urging tourists to buckle up, adhere to speed limits, avoid drunk driving, and resist the dangerous urge to hang out of sunroofs on slippery, narrow roads. His appeal extended beyond rules to a call for collective compassion. “In the event of a mishap,” he urged, “please assist the injured instead of recording videos. It is a noble act that strengthens the moral fabric of our society.”
The campaign also showcased new technological aid. SSP Gandhi highlighted interceptor vehicles, funded by a World Bank project, now patrolling the hills. Equipped with radar, sensors, and cameras, these vehicles enhance night patrols and evidence collection, aiming for quicker police response and safer roads.
As Shimla prepares for more winter visitors, officials like SDM Manjeet Sharma and District Revenue Officer Sumedh Sharma, who also participated, affirmed that such community-focused safety efforts will continue throughout the season. The drive underscores a simple truth: ensuring everyone’s safe return home is the highest priority.
