Ropeway Lifeline Brings Relief to Flood-Hit Apple Growers in Rampur’s Ghanvi Region

As Himachal Pradesh continues to battle the fury of the monsoon, many areas remain cut off and struggling to return to normal. In Ghanvi, a remote part of Rampur subdivision, floods and landslides have left roads destroyed and communities isolated. For days, residents faced severe hardships—essential supplies were halted, and apple growers watched helplessly as their harvest season slipped away.

With roads washed out and no alternate routes available, transporting apples to markets became impossible, threatening the livelihoods of hundreds of farmers. But in a heartening move, the local administration stepped in, launching a Span (ropeway) service to reconnect the region.

Now, apples are being carefully ferried via ropeway to the roadside, where they can continue their journey to market. Essential ration supplies are also being delivered to Kut and Kyav panchayats, bringing much-needed relief to families.

Local growers say the initiative has saved them from major financial losses. “Had the apples not reached the market in time, we would’ve suffered badly. This ropeway has been a lifeline,” said one farmer.

The main road connecting several panchayats remains badly damaged, and while repair work is underway at full speed, the ropeway will continue to serve as a vital link.

SDM Rampur assured that the administration is committed to supporting both farmers and villagers. “Until road access is fully restored, we’ll continue transporting apples and essential goods via Span,” he said.

In a region battered by nature, this simple but effective solution is proving to be a ray of hope, ensuring that hard work doesn’t go to waste and families don’t go hungry.
