Restore Commerce and Mathematics in Chail Koti College or Face Protests, Says Dr. Tanwar

The Himachal Pradesh Kisan Sabha has urged the government to immediately reinstate commerce and mathematics at the Government Degree College, Chail Koti, failing which the Kisan Sabha will resort to agitation. In a statement issued on Monday, Himachal Kisan Sabha State President Dr. Kuldeep Tanwar said that the Kisan Sabha had fought hard from 2010 to 2013 to reopen this college, due to which cases were filed against many activists for staging a sit-in outside the Assembly.
Dr. Tanwar stated that it is not logical to discontinue commerce and mathematics from the only degree college in the Kasumpti constituency. He stated that the discontinuation of these subjects would reduce the number of students in the college and lead to its closure. He added that it is unfortunate that two subjects have been discontinued in this college despite the presence of a cabinet minister from this constituency in the Sukhu government. He stated that it was the minister’s moral duty to introduce science instead of discontinuing two subjects in this college, so that students from this area could study science and become doctors, scientists, and engineers.
Dr. Tanwar stated that, according to a survey, the average number of well-educated individuals in the 12 panchayats of the Junga region is 4 percent, compared to 40 percent in Hamirpur district. He also noted that the Scheduled Caste population in the Junga tehsil is significantly higher than average. The region has very few affluent residents, which prevents them from sending their children to Solan and Shimla for education. He added that a lack of educational resources has resulted in very few people from this region holding high-ranking positions.
Dr. Tanwar said that instead of closing two subjects in this college, vocational subjects like tourism, hospitality, and hotel management should be included so that students can become self-reliant after completing their education. He said that during the inauguration of Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu Chayal Koti College by Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh, the Kisan Sabha had demanded the introduction of science subjects in this college. Instead of announcing science subjects, the Chief Minister announced B.Ed., which has not been completed even in two years
