Rajiv Bindal appointed the new Himachal BJP chief
Former BJP member of Assembly from Nahan Dr. Rajiv Bindal was appointed new party state president by Jagat Prakash Nadda on Sunday in place of Suresh Kashyap who tendered his resignation on Thursday.
A notification issued by Mr. Nadda today said that Mr. Bindal was appointed as the party’s new President and would replace Mr. Kashyap. It is the second tenure of Mr. Bindal ad party president as he has remained party chief from 2020 to 2022 but tendered his resignation before the completion of his first term owning to an audio clipping of a phone conversation between the former Director of the Health Department with employees belonged to his daughter firm.
It is worthwhile to mention that Mr. Bindal also remained Health Minister between 2007 to 2012 in Prem Kumar Dhumal and also became Speaker of the Assembly from 2018 to 2020.
Mr. Bindal is fifth term MLA,l but in the 2022 Assembly Election, he lost to Congress candidate Ajay Solanki. He represented the Solan constituency in Vidhan Sabha three times consecutively from 2000 – 2012. He was elected twice in 2012 to 2017 and 2017 to 2022 from Nahan Assembly.
Mr. Kashyap is a Lok Sabha member from Shimla Assembly and Bindal’s elevation from Shimla Parliamentary also shows that BJP wants to present Mr. Bindal as the party state leader as BJP currently did not have any state-level mass leader from Shimla Parliamentary after Suresh Bhardwaj who lost Assembly Election recently and Mr. Narendra Bragta is demised during Covid pandemic.
Suresh Kashyap couldn’t perform well in the recent Assembly Election as out of 17 Assembly Constituency the party could establish a lead in three Assemblies.
