President Murmu Cancels Shimla Visit Amid Rising Tensions After Pahalgam Attack

President Droupadi Murmu’s much-anticipated visit to Himachal Pradesh has been put on hold. She was scheduled to be in Shimla from May 5 to 9, but the trip has now been postponed in light of rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.

The President’s Office formally informed the Himachal Pradesh government and the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday, bringing preparations for the visit to an immediate halt. During her planned stay, President Murmu was to reside at the picturesque Retreat residence in Chharabra, just outside Shimla, and visit key institutions like IIT Mandi, ARTRAC, and the Raj Bhavan.

Officials involved in the planning say the visit was called off due to heightened security concerns stemming from the growing unrest after the Pahalgam incident. With diplomatic strain mounting, the President’s itinerary has understandably been revised.

The cancellation has temporarily paused what would have been a significant moment for the hill state, which was gearing up to host the President with a series of high-profile engagements. For now, all eyes remain on the unfolding situation and whether the visit will be rescheduled in the near future.
