Polling passes peacefully in Solan  district

BARRING one or two reported incidents of minor altercation at some places, the polling completely went peacefully in all the   all five  assembly segments of Solan district, today.

The polling which started at a low pace in the morning, picked up gradually as the day advanced.    Unlike previous elections, the polling did not witness any incidents of clashes between supporters of candidates of various political parties   in Solan district, except minor incidents of altercation reported at some places in Doon and Nalagarh assembly segments. 

Polling was registered at  around 59.66 percent till 3 pm in all five constituencies of Solan district.  The highest polling was registered in Doon and Nalagarh.   A  welcome was also accorded at all the model polling stations, established at different places, to handicapped, old age and first time voters. A 92 years old woman  Asha Devi  also cast her vote at Dhakhed polling station.  Similarly, 82 years old Josph Sagai also  exercised her franchise at a women polling station, established at cantonment Kasauli.

According to reports reaching here, around 76 percent polling was registered in Solan district. In Arki, the polling was registered at 58.58 percent, Doon, 64. 12 percent, Nalagarh 57.30 percent, Kasauli 62.24 percent  and in Solan it was 56.51 percent at 3 pm.  while it was registered at 75.69 percent in Kasauli constituency at 5 pm. 

The polling in district went on brisk note in the afternoon when female voters turned out in large numbers after completing their household chores. Hordes of women along with their kids were seen queued up outside their respective polling stations at several places, especially in Nalagarh, Doon,  Solan, Arki and Kasauli  assembly segments.

Voters at some places complained about the alleged deletion of their names from voter lists despite the fact that they had cast their votes in the last assembly polls.

“Polling process did not witness any violence, disturbance including reports of faults in any voting machine across the district,” said Deputy Commissioner Kritika Kuhari.
