PM Modi appeared as an angel in the hour of disaster, gave every possible help to Himachal: Rakesh Jamwal
BJP Chief Spokesperson Rakesh Jamwal said that Himachal Pradesh has been in the grip of a massive disaster for the last several months. Due to landslides, floods and continuous rains, the infrastructure of the state was badly destroyed, thousands of families were ruined and hundreds of people lost their lives. In this hour of crisis, the public needed immediate relief, rehabilitation and concrete steps, but it is unfortunate that the Congress government of the state proved to be completely insensitive and incompetent. The Chief Minister and his ministers are busy only in press conferences and rhetoric, while their presence is nowhere to be seen on the ground. Recently, seven people died tragically in Sundarnagar, but not even a single minister of the government reached the affected families to express condolences. This is the biggest example of the insensitivity of the Congress government.
Jamwal said that on the contrary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi understood the seriousness of the disaster and responded immediately. Prime Minister Modi himself came to Himachal, conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas and reviewed the situation by holding a high-level meeting in Dharamshala. He announced a special package of ₹1500 crore for Himachal, which, along with the amount of ₹5125 crore already released, became a total of ₹6625 crore. The Modi government has strengthened Himachal in every field – one lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, ₹1000 crore under MNREGA, and an investment of more than 1 lakh crore on National Highway Authority, Border Road Organization and four-lane projects are proof of this. If we look at the past data, it is clear that during the 10 years of Congress rule, Himachal received only ₹947.408 crore SDRF and ₹553.285 crore NDRF funds, while during the 11 years of Modi government, this amount increased to ₹3190.39 crore and ₹2684.879 crore respectively. This makes it clear that the Modi government has given more than four times the support to Himachal.
The BJP chief spokesperson launched a scathing attack on the state government and said that in 2023, the Congress government had made a lot of noise about a package of ₹4500 crores, but only ₹300 crores could be spent from it. This shows that the state government is not only immersed in mismanagement but is also cheating the public in the matter of relief distribution. The situation is such that the affected people are getting tarpaulins and rations on the basis of party politics and recommendations. The BJP organization worked on the ground in this difficult time, bringing alive the spirit of ‘seva hi sangathan’. BJP-ruled states Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Assam and Tripura sent crores of rupees and relief material to Himachal. State BJP President Dr. Rajiv Bindal, Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur and all BJP MLAs are constantly visiting the affected areas and reaching out to the affected families and are engaged in delivering food items, clothes, blankets and even kitchen items.
Jamwal said that the height of insensitivity of the Congress leadership is that Priyanka Gandhi, whose home is in Shimla, did not even deem it necessary to know the condition of the disaster victims. Rajya Sabha MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi, whom the Congress fielded for the MP election from Himachal, did not even deem it necessary to visit the affected areas once. This proves that the Congress and its government have nothing to do with the pain and suffering of the people. For the Congress, power is only a means of luxury, while for the BJP and Prime Minister Modi, power is a means of service.
The BJP chief spokesperson said that the people of Himachal have seen everything with their own eyes—on one side there is the Modi government and the BJP organization at the center, which are providing help and relief at every level, and on the other side there is the Congress government, which even in the hour of disaster could not go beyond doing politics and blaming the center. This hour of crisis has made it clear that the real support of the people of Himachal is only the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, not the Congress.
