Plantation drive in schools of Punjab by CSIR-IHBT
About 850 saplings of different types were planted by CSIR-IHBT, Palampur to develop gardens in nine government schools of Moga and Ferozepur district of Punjab state under the Jigyaasa program and Urban Floriculture vertical of CSIR Floriculture Mission. The institute took a significant step towards the establishment of ornamental gardens at Government Senior Secondary School, Peer Mohammad and Fatehgarh Panjtur; Government Primary Schools Lale, Talwandi and Mansurdeva; Government High School, Rawal Kangna, Mansoor Deva Rauwal and Kot Ise Khan and Government Secondary School, Buh Gujran are included. Plants like Areca Palm, Royal Palm, Raphis Palm, Ficus, Rose, Madhumalati, Thuja, Nerium, Bougainvillea, Dracaena, Hemelia, Boxwood etc. were planted in schools with the help of students and teachers. The students were also made aware of the importance of plants and gardens and landscaping by the mission staff. Around 800 students, teachers and other staff from all the schools took part in developing the gardens. Principals and teachers of all the schools expressed their gratitude to the Director and mission staff of the institute for this excellent work. Under this mission, gardens are developing in 200 schools and colleges in five different states, out of which about 100 gardens have been developed in schools, colleges and government offices.
