Patient-Doctor Clash at Shimla’s IGMC Takes a New Turn, RDA demands impartial investigation

What began as a small disagreement over an empty bed at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla has spiraled into a major confrontation between doctors and a patient’s family. A viral video showing a scuffle has triggered outrage, leading to an FIR against Dr. Raghav Nurula, suspension from duty, and heated protests inside the hospital.

Doctors, however, argue the video tells only half the story. The Resident Doctors’ Welfare Association (RDA) has stepped in, claiming the patient attacked first and demanding an impartial investigation. They also raised concerns about safety, saying nearly 200 people stormed the ward after the incident, leaving doctors locked inside and under severe stress.

The patient’s family insists the doctor misbehaved and assaulted a man who was on oxygen support, while the doctor maintains he was defending himself. With CCTV footage and witness statements under review, the hospital administration has promised a fair inquiry.

Health Minister Dhaniram Shandil has assured strict action if wrongdoing is proven, while also pledging that neither side will face injustice. For now, the incident has left IGMC caught between trust and tension, highlighting the fragile balance between patients and caregivers. Details are still coming in, and updates will be added.
