One person was killed and property worth 1.76 crore rupees was destroyed due to monsoons rains in Hamirpur

Normal life in various parts of the district was paralyzed in the late afternoon hours following medium to heavy rains. Though the sky was clear till afternoon, all of a sudden the sky became cloudy and it started raining.

Meanwhile, an official source said that one person, Ranjit Singh of Bhambla village of Mandi district was killed in a road accident near Bari mandir, and properties worth 1.76 crore rupees were damaged due to monsoon rains in Hamirpur district during the last twenty-four hours.

He said that the total loss to the properties following rains to date had been estimated at around 19.64 crore rupees.

He said that during the last twenty-four hours maximum loss of 1.42 crore was caused to the Department of Public Works, followed by 33, 15 lakh rupees to the Jal Shakti Vibhag and 79,025/- rupees to the Department of power supply.

He appealed to the people not to venture out during rains and especially refrain from going towards the River Beas and its tributaries that were in spate these days due to heavy rains in their catchment areas.
