One more X-band Doppler weather radar will be installed in Lahaul Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh by December 2025
Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sikander Kumar today sought details of Doppler Weather Radar (DWR) systems installed in Himachal Pradesh in Rajya Sabha and also asked what time frame has been set for commissioning the latest radars? He asked how much money was spent on the installation of DWRs in the State and their smooth functioning and what measures have been taken by the Government to ensure proper functioning of weather observation systems for accurate weather forecast in the State?
Responding to Dr. Sikander’s questions, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh informed that three X-band Doppler weather radars have been installed and made operational at Kufri near Shimla, Murari Devi in Mandi and Jot in Chamba in Himachal Pradesh. One more X-band Doppler weather radar will be installed in Lahaul Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh by December 2025. He informed that an amount of Rs 13.87 crore has been spent on the establishment and smooth operation of DWR in Himachal Pradesh.
Dr. Jitendra further explained that weather forecasting is done using data from multiple observation systems. Data from these observation systems are incorporated into various state-of-the-art regional and global dynamical models to forecast weather at different spatial and temporal scales. He said that continuous efforts are being made to achieve better accuracy in weather forecasting across the country.
Dr. Sikander sought to know from the Hon’ble Prime Minister whether the Government intends to increase the number of nuclear power reactors. He also asked whether it is true that 24 nuclear reactors are operational and 18 more reactors with a total capacity of 13800 MW-e are to be constructed by the year 2032?
In this regard, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions and Prime Minister’s Office, Dr. Jitendra Singh informed that at present nine reactors with a total capacity of 7300 MW are under construction. Ten reactors with a capacity of 7000 MW are under pre-project activities.
Dr. Sikandar Kumar said that whatever issues are brought to the attention of the Central Government through the House, the Government takes appropriate action on them. He said that the Modi Government at the Centre is committed to the all-round development and assistance of all the states by rising above party politics.
