NMIMS Chandigarh celebrates National Law Day with engaging events and thought-provoking discussions
NMIMS Chandigarh Campus recently celebrated
National Law Day with a series of enriching activities aimed at empowering law students and
fostering a deeper understanding of the legal profession. The event kicked off with an
insightful keynote session delivered by Mr. Nitin Potdar, a renowned corporate lawyer with
expertise in mergers and acquisitions.
Mr. Potdar’s session, titled “Challenges & Opportunities for Law Students”, provided
valuable career guidance and practical insights into navigating the legal profession. Drawing
from his extensive experience, he discussed the evolving landscape of law and the skills
necessary for success in a competitive legal environment. Following the address, Mr. Potdar
engaged in a dynamic Q&A session, where he answered students’ questions on various topics
such as career focus, confidence-building for interviews, and advice on specialized legal
fields, helping them gain clarity about the direction they could take in their legal careers.
The celebrations continued with an engaging Mock Parliament on the topic of “One Nation,
One Election”, a key issue in the context of India’s election system. More than 60 enthusiastic
students participated in this simulated parliamentary debate, where two teams — one
advocating for the bill and the other opposing it — debated passionately. The students
recreated the dynamics of a real-life parliamentary session, complete with speeches, rebuttals,
and voting. After an intense and thought-provoking debate, the winner was determined based
on the voting outcome, showcasing the students’ aptitude in political discourse and legal
argumentation.
The event was guided and supported by the esteemed faculty members of NMIMS
Chandigarh, including Prof. (Dr.) Rashmi Khorana Nagpal, Director In-Charge of SVKM’s
NMIMS Chandigarh and Associate Dean of the School of Law, along with Assistant
Professors Ms. Meenu Duggala and Mr. Gantav Gupta. Their expert guidance and
unwavering support ensured the success of the event and helped students gain valuable
insights from both academic and practical perspectives.
Prof. (Dr.) Rashmi Khorana Nagpal remarked, “National Law Day offers us the perfect
opportunity to celebrate the importance of law in shaping our society and engage our
students in meaningful discussions that contribute to their holistic development as future
legal professionals. At NMIMS Chandigarh, we are committed to nurturing the next
generation of leaders who will make an impact in the legal world and beyond.”
The celebrations were an excellent platform for law students to learn from industry experts,
engage in critical discussions, and strengthen their skills in debate, public speaking, and legal
analysis. The Mock Parliament, in particular, provided students with a unique opportunity to
understand the complexities of India’s electoral process while honing their skills in advocacy
and parliamentary procedures.
NMIMS Chandigarh continues to remain committed to offering high-quality legal education
and preparing students for success in the legal profession. The National Law Day celebration
underscored the university’s dedication to academic excellence and professional growth.
