Mission Bharpoor 2.0 Launched in Kangra to Give Malnourished Children a Healthier Start
In a significant step towards tackling childhood malnutrition, Mission Bharpoor 2.0 was launched at Rakkad village in Dharamshala on October 6 in the presence of Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa and CSIR-IHBT Director Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav. The programme brought together members of the local community, scientists from CSIR-IHBT Palampur, and officials from the Department of Women and Child Development, reflecting a collaborative effort to improve child health across the district.
The initiative will benefit 1,140 children across Kangra who have been identified as severely or moderately malnourished, stunted, or underweight. Through Anganwadi Centres, children aged six months to five years will receive specially designed nutrition kits containing iron-rich spirulina bars, fruit bars, protein- and fibre-enriched energy bars, millet panjeeri, and millet-based porridge mixes.
Mission Bharpoor 2.0 builds on the success of its first phase, which achieved an encouraging recovery rate of nearly 68 percent among children who received nutritional support. The new phase aims not only to speed up recovery from malnutrition but also to address deficiencies in essential nutrients and improve overall child health.
Beyond nutritional supplements, the programme focuses on regular growth monitoring, healthy feeding practices, dietary diversity, and better hygiene awareness among families. By combining scientific nutrition solutions with active community participation, Mission Bharpoor 2.0 seeks to ensure that children across Kangra receive the nourishment they need for healthy growth, learning, and development.
