From Pajhouta Valley to State Glory: Megha Singh Kanwar Tops HAS 2025
Megha Singh Kanwar, hailing from the Pajhouta Valley in Rajgarh block, has brought immense pride not only to her family but to the entire district and state by securing the top position in the Himachal Pradesh Administrative Services Examination 2025. Her achievement is a shining example of perseverance, patience, and strategic preparation.
This remarkable success came in her third consecutive attempt. The news of her selection has filled the Pajhouta Valley with joy and celebration. Megha herself was taken by surprise—on the evening of December 30, she had dozed off around 6 p.m. when a phone call jolted her awake. Her heart raced as she checked the results, and upon seeing her name at the very top, her first instinct was to call her mother. The happiness in her mother’s voice, Megha says, was the greatest reward of her journey.
Roots of Determination
Megha belongs to the remote village of Khaniwad in Pajhouta Valley. Her father, Narendra Singh Kanwar, a farmer and orchardist, was moved to tears of joy, while her mother, Anita Kanwar, brimmed with pride. Service runs deep in the family—her elder brother, Karan Singh Kanwar, serves in the police department and has always emphasized discipline and duty, values that inspired Megha to aim high.
Academic Journey
After completing her primary schooling in her village, Megha graduated from Jawahar Vidyalaya in 2015. She went on to earn her B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, where she also won a gold medal. Her eventual success in the HAS exam on her third attempt stands as proof that setbacks are not failures, but lessons that pave the way forward.
Keys to Success
Megha credits self-study and consistent revision as the pillars of her preparation. Initially, she studied for 6–7 hours daily, but as the exam drew closer, she extended her schedule to 12 hours. The New Year brought double joy for her—her birthday on December 18 was followed by the announcement of the HAS results on December 30.
Reflecting on her journey, Megha shared that after failing in the General Studies paper during her first two attempts, she identified her weakness and worked relentlessly to overcome it. That focused strategy became her greatest strength in the third attempt, ultimately leading her to the top.
