Mega mock exercise on disaster management at Nehru Ground, Rajgarh
To deal with natural disasters like earthquake, a large-scale mega earthquake drill was organized at Nehru Ground in Rajgarh on Friday. This drill was conducted by Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority in collaboration with National Disaster Management Authority. This mega mock drill was conducted under the leadership of SDM Rajgarh Rajkumar Thakur.
The mock drill was started by sounding a siren in the city, after which people were seen coming out of shops and offices and taking shelter in safe places. During the exercise, on receiving information about a building being damaged near the new bus stand, the police administration immediately reached the spot and relief and rescue work was started. A temporary relief camp was set up at Nehru Maidan, where the injured were referred for further treatment after first aid. All kinds of facilities were available in the camp. In which arrangements were made for treatment, relief material, reporting of victims and food etc.
Giving information, SDM Rajgarh said that there is no fixed time for natural disaster but a mega mock drill has been organized to prepare people mentally to deal with such a situation. He said that this exercise is a part of the 9th state-wide earthquake mega mock drill organized across the state. Its main objective is to test the preparedness of various departments in an emergency situation like earthquake and to practically implement the latest techniques of disaster management.
SDM Thakur personally inspected the relief operations and appreciated the coordination and promptness of all the departments. He said that such exercises will prove helpful in dealing with future disasters in a better manner.
Officers and employees of all the departments of the sub-division, Nagar Panchayat and local people participated enthusiastically in the mega mock drill
