Mandi Admin helped Sakamma Reuniting with family after Two Decades

After being separated from her family for nearly 20 years, Sakamma, a woman from Karnataka, has been reunited with her loved ones, thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Mandi district administration and the Himachal Pradesh government. Language barriers and a lack of resources had kept her away from her family, but perseverance and compassion brought an end to this long ordeal.

Sakamma had been living in the Bhangrotu old age home in Mandi district, far from her hometown of Danayakanakere village in Karnataka. Today, she was handed over to a team from Karnataka’s Social Welfare Department, marking a heartwarming homecoming facilitated by the collaborative efforts of the Himachal and Karnataka state governments.

A Journey of Resilience and Determination

Deputy Commissioner of Mandi, Apoorva Devgan, highlighted the government’s commitment to aiding underprivileged sections of society. Regular inspections of old age homes and orphanages are carried out across the state to ensure the well-being of their residents. During one such inspection at the Bhangrotu old age home, Additional Deputy Commissioner Rohit Rathore discovered Sakamma, who was unable to communicate in Hindi.

The breakthrough came when Ravi Nandan, an IPS probationer from Karnataka serving in Mandi, conversed with Sakamma in her native language. Through this exchange, her family’s location and details emerged, revealing a family that had long given up hope of finding her alive. They believed she was no longer in this world, but this discovery reignited their hopes.

The Road to Reunion

Once her origins were confirmed, the Himachal Pradesh government established contact with the Karnataka government to facilitate her return. The Karnataka government promptly dispatched a three-member team from the Vijay Nagar district to escort Sakamma home.

The handover took place in the presence of SDM Balh Smritika Negi and Basavaraj Angi, Senior Superintendent of the Karnataka Social Welfare Department. Angi shared that Sakamma’s family, including her children and grandchildren, were overwhelmed with joy upon learning she was alive. They had searched for her for years without success, assuming the worst.

A Heartwarming Conclusion

Sakamma’s return has brought immense happiness to her family, who are eagerly awaiting her arrival. Her story is a testament to the power of collaboration and empathy in overcoming obstacles. Her family has expressed deep gratitude to the Himachal Pradesh government, the Mandi district administration, and the caretakers of the Bhangrotu old age home for their efforts in reuniting them after two long decades.

This inspiring tale underlines the importance of community and governance working hand in hand to make miracles happen.
