Maha Shivaratri in Mandi: A Divine Gathering of Deities and Devotion

The town of Mandi, famously known as Chhoti Kashi, is immersed in a spiritual aura as preparations for the Maha Shivaratri festival reach their peak. So far, 140 deities from different parts of the region have arrived, filling the air with the rhythmic beats of traditional instruments. Every street and square is witnessing the grand arrival of divine processions, making the entire town resonate with devotion.

A Grand Procession to Mark the Beginning

According to Sarv Devta Samiti President Shivpal Sharma, a total of 216 registered deities were invited for the festival. While some arrived as early as February 25, the count has now reached 140. The much-awaited first Jaleb (grand traditional procession) is set to take place on February 27, where prominent deities will participate. This vibrant event will also witness the presence of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who will inaugurate the celebrations.

Centuries-Old Traditions Still Alive

One of the most sacred rituals of the Maha Shivaratri festival in Mandi is the customary visit of all deities to the Raj Madhav Rai temple. Before participating in the festivities, they first offer their respects here and then proceed to meet the royal family, following an age-old tradition. “This practice has been carried forward for centuries, and even today, it is followed with the same devotion and reverence,” said Sharma.

A Rare and Spectacular Divine Reunion

What makes this festival truly unique is the grand reunion of deities. When these divine figures meet, the scene is nothing short of magical, leaving devotees awestruck. The town comes alive with thousands of visitors eager to witness this extraordinary gathering. “This is the only festival where people get the rare chance to seek blessings from over 200 deities in one place,” said local resident Rajnish Thakur.

With the Maha Shivaratri festival set to continue from February 27 to March 5, Mandi is all set to witness an unparalleled celebration of faith, tradition, and spirituality. Devotees and visitors alike are ready to soak in the divine atmosphere, making this festival a truly unforgettable experience.
